Travel with Shelly Eden × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

A July study.
Travel with Shelly Eden works out of Milton, Delaware, a small town on the Broadkill River a few miles inland from Delaware Bay. The agency belongs to Michelle “Shelly” Eden, who signs herself President/Owner and independent travel advisor, and whose site states the credential without ornament: “With 40 years in the travel industry, she brings exceptional knowledge and unforgettable experiences into every vacation.” Forty years covers the whole arc from paper tickets to whatever booking has since become, and a person who has kept clients moving through all of it has earned the plain wording. The site describes a full service independent travel agency “creating customized travel experiences,” affiliated with RubysTravel, a member of Signature Travel Network.
The lockup earned the study on its own terms. A turquoise airplane, drawn in a single fine line, arcs over a small globe device; a slim gray rule stands between that flight and the wordmark, which lands in heavy black capitals set tight. We did wonder whether the hairline plane would survive translation to a die, since fine line art tends to close up as leather compresses around it. In the renders it holds. The wordmark would carry the tag either way, which suggests the lockup was built in the right order.

Pressed lengthwise
We pressed her mark on a pale sea-blue and a cool country gray, the open water and the quiet shore of her own palette. Black with gold foil completes the set, as it always does here.
The Original Carry-On
For the companion we walked the mark down the river to the bay. One scallop shell, drawn as luggage. The hinge sits at the top between two small flat ears, and seven bold ribs fan down to the wavy bottom edge. Above the hinge stands a rounded suitcase handle with its feet planted on the shell's top edge, and beneath the shell runs TRAVEL WITH SHELLY EDEN in one line of plain capitals. Scallops are the rare shellfish that travel under their own power, so the shell arrives pre-packed; we like a joke that also happens to be marine biology.
We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
