Travelbeliever × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.

A July study.

Travelbeliever is Roxanne Wanzek's travel practice in Fargo, North Dakota. She is, by her own account, a planner by nature, with a particular sympathy for parents, because travel with children adds a freight of stress she understands and plans around. Her promise sits right on the site: “Believe you can have the vacation of your dreams.” She books cruises and flights and builds complete vacation packages around them. What stopped us was the name. One word, with a whole creed folded inside it. A name that leads with belief deserves a mark that shows the believing, and the site keeps that faith, for now, in plain type.

The mark this study proposes

The current site repeats TRAVELBELIEVER in styled header type and leaves the picture unspoken, so the letters were our whole inheritance. Above them, portrait-wise, we hung a small airplane climbing a seven-dash route into a five-point star drawn open at one edge so the line can enter. We tried the star closed first and it read like a sheriff's badge; left open, it becomes a destination with a door in it. A route that ends inside a star says the name in pictures, and the seven dashes press kindly, each one a clean small bite for the die.

Proposed new mark for Travelbeliever

Pressed

We pressed the study into a turquoise the site already declares as its one accent color and into a gray-sand quiet enough to honor the plain-type beginnings. Black carries the gold.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
