travLBudi × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.
A July study.
travLBudi works out of Bow, New Hampshire. Linda Bucknam owns it, with decades of hands-on travel work behind the desk, and she plans Caribbean and European trips herself, start to finish. Disney has its own shelf in her practice. Her small European groups gather around family heritage and local food, and when a trip hits a snag somewhere far from home, she is the one on the line untangling it. Her site promises “Travel experience you can trust.” The logo goes warmer still: under a rising sun, a condensed blue lowercase line reads “with you all the way”.
The mark is why we stopped. Seven warm yellow rays climb over a shallow orange arc, and beneath the sunrise the wordmark runs “travL” in deep blue straight into “Budi” in lime green, two capitals holding the seam mid-word. A stamping die has a single color to give, so a two-color name is a dare. We wondered whether the seam would survive once the green was gone. It does, because the two capitals do the work the green was doing.
The mark, as found
Pressed
Blueberry sits close to the wordmark’s deep blue, and indian summer, a honeyed russet, answers the sunrise arc and its golden rays. Black carries the mark in gold foil.
Travel Budi
Pressed lengthwise, the companion draws the name as a picture. Two wheeled suitcases roll rightward along one bold ground line, a tall case just left of center and a half-size buddy close beside it, their thin pull handles leaning back at the same easy angle. Short motion dashes trail behind each. Under the line, in plain capitals, runs the promise again: WITH YOU ALL THE WAY. A big buddy and a little buddy, walking together the way a parent walks with a child.
We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
