Truly Connected Travel × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.

A July study.

Truly Connected Travel plans luxury trips and boutique wellness retreats, favoring “beautifully designed properties that fully immerse you in new experiences.” Aimee Suthann created the studio to share her passion for travel and wellness, and the public listings we found place her in Los Angeles. Her pages ask travelers to give themselves time to assimilate into a culture, and they put it in a sentence we have quoted to each other all month: “Stopping for a coffee in a local cafe is just as important to us as seeing the Eiffel Tower.” Five trees go into the ground for every customer who books with them.

The coffee sentence is a logo waiting for a draftsman. A firm willing to weigh a cup against the most photographed tower in Europe has already stated its geometry; we wanted to see it in brass and hide. As found, the brand dresses in type alone, a stacked serif wordmark with a quiet rule beneath, so we pressed that first.

The mark this study proposes

We call the proposal THE CAFE EQUATION. A wide-bodied cup with two curls of steam stands at the left and a slender Eiffel Tower at the right. A bold equals sign holds the gap between them. The joke is scale: cup and tower are drawn to the same height, the last curl of steam level with the tower's tip. Both rest on one baseline, with TRULY CONNECTED TRAVEL lettered plainly beneath. We tried a third element for the tree planting and struck it; the equation wanted the whole field.

Pressed

Both the as-found type and the new mark went lengthwise onto pale gray-sand and cool country gray, the pair that follows the light ground and quiet gray accents of their site. Black takes the gold foil and makes the equation glow.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
