Two Birds Travel × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

A July study.
Two Birds Travel is Kara Alley's travel-design practice, and the record we keep places it in Kingwood, Texas. She signs the official pages as “Founder of Two Birds Travel | Certified Travel Advisor | Memory Maker-in-Chief,” the homepage promises “Plan Your Dream Vacation Today” and offers to let you “Meet your Personal Travel Concierge,” and the about page keeps it shorter still with “Explore More, Travel Smart.” Anyone can sell a booking. The last of her three titles promises to stand behind the memory afterward, which strikes us as the harder trade.
The mark is what carried them onto our bench. A circular bird-and-mountain device in coral and teal sits beside a gray TWO BIRDS wordmark, with a smaller coral TRAVEL set beneath. Coral against deep teal is an old coastal pairing, and it moves onto leather almost unchanged. We proofed the device on white and on dark before choosing a composite, because a mark that lives happily on a white homepage can go quiet on black; this one kept every letter and every feather visible.

Lengthwise, so the wordmark has room to run. Pale sea-blue answers the teal in the device, and bold poppy red picks up its coral. Black with gold foil closes the set.
Two birds, one trip
The name hands you the proverb, and we took it. One vintage suitcase, wide and rounded, with a latch mark near each end and an arched handle on top; on that handle two plump birds perch, facing each other so their beaks nearly meet above the center. A single line of plain capitals runs beneath the case, TWO BIRDS ONE TRIP, and the frame stays bare around it. We hesitated over the pun, since it is an easy one. Then again, the easy line is the one a stranger at the baggage carousel actually reads aloud. It went lengthwise onto the same leathers as the mark, and we are still deciding whether easy and right coincide here.
We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
