Uncharted - A Travel Agency × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

Uncharted - A Travel Agency plans bespoke, expert-guided adventure travel for the “fearless explorers” of its own homepage promise. Behind the name is Susan “Sue” Bauer, who has planned travel professionally for more than 27 years; her father worked for American Airlines for four decades, so for her family a plane ride was the ordinary door to elsewhere. Her base, by our reckoning, is Sun City West, Arizona. The line that stayed with us comes from her own pages: “That’s why every Uncharted trip first begins as a conversation, where I dig deep with a client to uncover what they really want out of their journey.” A luggage tag is a small thing to hang on such a practice, yet it rides along for every mile of it, and we wanted to press her mark with the patience she describes.
Her mark settled the question of whether to study it. A gold compass point floats above a wide white UNCHARTED wordmark, with A TRAVEL AGENCY set in spaced small caps below, and the whole lockup is drawn for dark ground. Devices like that are built for foil. Whether the fine points of the star would survive at tag scale, we could only find out by pressing.
The mark, as found

The lockup went onto deep dark espresso and warm caramel, espresso answering the tailored dark ground of her pages and caramel answering the gold of the compass. Black carries the mark in gold foil, and of the three it sits closest to the logo as she wears it herself.
The world in orbit
Sue promises an advisor “who will make the world spin around you,” and we took the sentence literally. One small traveler stands still, suitcase in hand, while a globe rides a wide dashed orbit around them, a few trailing dashes marking it mid-spin; beneath, on a gently rising curve, MAKE THE WORLD SPIN AROUND YOU. We sketched a compass into an early pass out of loyalty to the logo and then removed it, since the orbit was already doing the work. Pressed lengthwise on the same three leathers.
We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
