USA Benefits Group; Pawbulous × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world marks.

An August study.

For USA Benefits Group; Pawbulous.

Their lockup runs wide – the name over its two red rules, the service line riding beneath – so it runs the long way down a lengthwise tag, letter-perfect to the registered mark. Deep navy and warm red take the mark's two colors; a pale greige tag stands in for the white field.

The same two bars bend once at the middle and become a roof over a keyhole, with SAFE AND SOUND beneath – a keyring being where the keys to everything worth insuring spend the day. The black fob carries the gold; the navy one takes a blind press.

Rain across the whole tray except one dry patch under the umbrella, which is the entire industry in a single picture. The tray comes in one leather, a golden tan that happens to be called arizona – about right for a Scottsdale desk.

Beverly describes her work as wearing "two complementary hats," so we took her at her word: two pegs and two hats, one of them with a paw on the band. The journals split the same way – deep navy for the licensed hat, warm red for the other.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
