VistaJet × Leatherius Woodman – a leather stamping study

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of stamping studies on real-world logos.

An August study.

For VistaJet.

For the warm-up, we put the VistaJet winglet on the luggage tags – warm gray for the fuselage silver and warm red for the sweep, with a black tag between them. The black tag carries the winglet in gold.

Next, the route line. VistaJet's passengers have flown to more than 2,400 airports, so we scattered airports like a star chart and drew one unbroken line through the field – it changes heading only where it meets an airport, and its last leg climbs like the winglet.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather. The passport covers run in warm red and warm gray; on the dopp kits, black over deep espresso brown, it sits in the lower corner.

Then the keychains. Four thousand aviation experts of more than sixty nationalities arrange every detail at every hour, so the fob carries a twenty-four-hour dial with a meridian globe for a face – AROUND THE CLOCK on the upper arc, AROUND THE WORLD on the lower. The black fob takes it in gold.

And finally, the one we liked the most. The VistaJet promise reads “Simple, Efficient, Reliable, Global” – four words, four cardinal points. We built a compass around them, so the promise holds at any heading. It went onto the golden tan tray at a generous size, and into the corner of two journals, one black and one pale greige.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
