Good Ground – a Wiregrass leather collection for Dothan, Alabama

A September study.
Around Dothan, Alabama the best things have always come up out of the ground – peanuts out of the sandy loam, longleaf pines out of the old piney woods. We designed a small collection about that ground – Good Ground – and pressed it into leather.
First, the fields. We set seven furrows running straight at the horizon so they converge exactly where the sun is coming up – the rows are its rays – and wrote GOOD GROUND beneath. On a luggage tag it doubles as a traveler's wish: good ground, wherever you land.
It looks genuinely beautiful stamped into the leather.
The black tag carries the design in gold.
Next, the harvest. We drew one whole peanut plant, crown above the soil line and pods hanging down among the roots, and wrote the plain truth of the crop underneath – THE GOOD PART GROWS UNDERGROUND.
On the catchall tray the plant gets the room it deserves.
On a journal the same line turns into advice – what you write down grows underground too, until it is ready to be pulled up. The caramel is nearly the sandy loam; the dark espresso, the turned earth.
And finally, the pines. We bundled a longleaf's needles into their radiating burst – the tree's own firework – and ringed it with WIREGRASS above and DOTHAN ALABAMA below.

And the toiletry bags, honeyed russet over dark espresso, take the burst in the lower corner – small, like a pine seen from the far end of a field.
