Hand Picked (Volume I-B) – a leather collection for the giving of good fruit

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies.

A September study. Shops Waterfall, Volume I-B.

A small collection called Hand Picked, for the people who give fruit. A pear gets chosen for somebody and is gone by Sunday – the giving deserves an object that stays.

First, the namesake. We drew the exact instant of choosing – a hand just closed around the stem, the pear still on its branch – and set HAND PICKED beneath, so whoever receives one can read it both ways.

It looks genuinely beautiful. The tags stand upright; forest green carries the leaf, and the other two take warm caramel and a fresh poppy red.

Next, the same stamp at pocket size – the keepsake that rides home on a set of keys, in golden tan and in forest green.

The toiletry bags take the same stamp small in the lower right corner – a two-bag stack in honeyed russet over chestnut.

Then a second design, for the catchall tray. Three pears on one baseline, each drawn true to its variety with its name beneath, and CHOOSE WELL above – the whole craft of a fruit stand in two words, pressed into golden tan.

And finally, a third design for the journals. A pear half-unwrapped from its tissue, above the words WORTH KEEPING – the fruit is eaten, the page is kept.

Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather – one journal in forest green, one in caramel.
