Lititz Sweet Lititz – a leather collection for a candy-loving Pennsylvania town

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies.

A September study. Volume I-A – an independent study.

Lititz, Pennsylvania has been sweet for a very long time – pretzels twisted here since 1861, chocolate poured since 1884. We designed a small leather collection for the town's sweet tooth and named it Lititz Sweet Lititz.

First, we took the oldest phrase in the language of home and handed it to the town: LITITZ SWEET LITITZ, with the middle word wrapped in a candy twist. A luggage tag is the right place for it – wherever the bag goes, the phrase keeps saying where sweetness lives.

It looks genuinely beautiful. In pale rose and warm red it reads like taffy; in pale sea-blue, like a penny-candy jar.

Next, the pretzel. America's oldest commercial pretzel bakery still works its ovens in this town, so the keychain carries a plump pretzel knot and one line of confession: TWISTED SINCE 1861.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather. The black fob carries the gold – foil being, after all, a candy tradition.

Then, the springs. We drew Lititz Springs Park from its old postcard view – the long promenade under the trees, with the stone-lined spring channel running straight beside it – and set the scene in a medallion for the catchall tray, where pocket change and pocket candy end their day.

It renders in golden tan, and looks like a shaded afternoon.

For the toiletry bags we went to the soda wall – one glass bottle, cap still crimped, beside the words ONE FOR THE ROAD. It sits small in the lower corner, navy over chestnut.

And finally, the one we liked the most. An empty candy wrapper, and under it the words SWEET NOTHINGS – the candy is gone, and a journal is where sweet nothings get written down before anyone forgets them.

Looks absolutely gorgeous when stamped onto the leather. One in pale rose, one in deep chocolate brown.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
