The Long Game – a leather collection in the language of the game table

A September study.

Waterfall Volume I-B.

We spent the month designing in the language of the game table. The Long Game is a small leather collection built on the phrases a household of players trades for decades, pressed into objects meant to last about as long.

First, we set two tumbling dice above the words YOUR TURN – the oldest instruction in the house, pressed onto the thing you hand over when the driving changes hands.

Next, we drew a game track that runs the whole length of the luggage tag, from a suitcase on the first square to a little house on the last. THE LONG WAY HOME rides over the bend. Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

Then we planted a small pennant over the words AWAY GAME and pressed it into the corner of the toiletry bags – navy stacked on chestnut, packed before the weekend has a plan.

Then, for the catchall tray, we laid a chess king on its side beneath the words END OF TURN – the piece rests and the day is played. It looks absolutely gorgeous stamped into the golden tan.

And finally, we built a small house whose doorway is a pawn, and set it over the words HOUSE RULES in the corner of the journals – the book where the real rules get written down, amendments and all. It presses in deep green and in deep brown.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
