The Tiny Toad Collection – a Conway, Arkansas leather study

An August study.

The Tiny Toad Collection is a small line of leather goods we designed for Conway, Arkansas – keychains, journals and more, every piece stamped with something of the town.

First, the namesake. Conway hides tiny bronze toads along its downtown sidewalks as a prize for whoever looks down, so we set a small toad under the words LOOK DOWN, with CONWAY underfoot, and pressed it on the keychains – the thing everybody looks down at a dozen times a day.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather – the chestnut's own mottle does half the toad's work.

Next, race day. Every spring the World Championship Toad Races run through downtown Conway, so we put a toad through the finish tape under WORLD CHAMPION and stamped it on the luggage tags.

The black tag carries the gold.

The same champion sits low in the corner of the toiletry bag, navy over deep espresso – a kit for the winner who travels.

Then, for the graduates. Three colleges call Conway home, so three caps go up over CITY OF COLLEGES – a journal in deep wine and warm tan for whatever gets written once the tassel turns.

And finally, the one we liked the most. We drew the downtown block itself – brick fronts and awnings, and at one doorway a toad so small you have to know to look – and pressed it across the golden tan catchall tray, where the keys land every evening.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this Conway study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
