The Tri-Lakes Collection – a Branson leather stamping study, Volume I-D

From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies.

A September study – Volume I-D.

Branson keeps three lakes, and the people who love them can tell them apart blindfolded. The Tri-Lakes Collection presses that knowledge into leather, one stamp for each object a lake trip touches.

First, we took the promise every good Branson trip ends with, and set SAME TIME NEXT SUMMER over three ruled water lines – one lake each.

It runs lengthwise along the luggage tags. On navy and on pale sea-blue the lines read as the water; on deep green, as the ridge above it.

Next, a keychain for the family whose water is the cold one. A trout arcs over TANEYCOMO – the lake the dam keeps cold enough to hold them.

It looks genuinely beautiful – on deep navy and on warm map-paper tan.

Then the toiletry bag, for the man who shaves by lamplight to make first light on the water. UP BEFORE THE FISH – the sun already clearing the line, the fish still asleep beneath it. We pressed it into the corner of a navy bag over dark espresso.

Then the catchall tray, where a homecoming empties its pockets. We gave it THE LANDING – a plank dock reaching into still water, the boat already tied – pressed at generous size into the tray's golden tan.

And finally, the one we liked the most. FISH STORIES – a trout laid along a measuring rule, running well past the end of it. A journal for the kind of true story that grows an inch a year.
