Well Kept – a leather collection for the handmade home

Well Kept – Volume I-D.

A September study.

Well Kept is a small leather collection for the handmade home – for people who notice the joinery in a doorway and treat useful things as worthy of beauty. Five original stamps, pressed into leather that keeps its own kind of grain.

First, we drew an acorn at pocket scale and set THE WHOLE OAK beneath it. An acorn carries the whole oak the way a key ring carries the whole house.

Next, the catchall tray. A tray is a frame for the day's small things, so we gave it one – a wide mitered border with four squares at each corner, drawn around the words WHAT THE DAY BROUGHT HOME.

It looks genuinely beautiful.

Then the journals. A house is kept and so is a journal – daily, by hand – so the corner carries an oak sprig above KEPT BY HAND, like a bookplate for a book that writes itself. One in deep green, one in warm tan.

After that, the toiletry bags: a honeybee over a rising sun and the words UP WITH THE SUN – the first worker awake, pressed small in the lower corner where the morning starts. Honeyed russet over deep espresso brown.

And finally, the luggage tags, standing upright in a thin frame with a square at each corner: WELL MADE above, WELL TRAVELED below. The best compliment a made thing can earn is that it went along.
