The Workbench Collection – a leather stamping study for people who make things

A September study.

Volume I-C

A small collection for people who make things. We called it The Workbench – three stamps from the bench where things get made, each recording a moment every real project knows.

First, the moment they all share. We drew a needle that has just pulled its thread through, the thread running on to underline the word it makes possible – BEGIN. After the first stitch, the rest is just more stitches.

On the journals it sits low in the corner of the cover, right where a new project gets its first page.

Next, we borrowed the shadow board – the painted outline that shows at a glance which tool is out. We left the hammer's outline empty and wrote the reason underneath: IN USE. On a keychain it rides with the busiest tool anyone owns.

Pressed into the corner of the toiletry bags, it reads like a workshop label out traveling.

And finally, one for the drawer of saved parts. A hinge and a spool, a button and a wing nut, gathered under the collector's honest defense – IT MIGHT COME IN HANDY. We pressed it into the base of the catchall tray, which is exactly where those parts end up.
