Write Soon – a leather collection for the writing life – Volume I-D

From the Practice Log.

A September study – Volume I-D.

Write Soon is a small collection for people who still write by hand. Five original stamps from the writing life, pressed into leather – journals and luggage tags among them.

First, the send-off. Every good letter ends with the same request, so we set WRITE SOON among the wavy bars of a postmark and put a swallow in the cancel to carry it. It travels lengthwise on the luggage tags, in warm red and deep green. The black tag carries it in gold.

Next, we drew an ampersand the way a pointed pen wants it drawn – heavy where the stroke presses, hairline where it lifts. An ampersand always means two of something, which is what makes it the right keychain to give away. On warm tan it presses as a quiet relief. The black fob takes it in gold.

Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

Then we hung a sign on the toiletry bags – GONE WRITING, arched over a fountain pen nib in a small round badge, pressed into the lower corner of the warm tan bag over deep brown. For whoever packs more notebooks than clothes.

After that, the catchall tray. We pressed a checklist into its golden tan base, and the last box – GOOD IDEAS – stays open on purpose. Emptying your pockets onto it counts as list making.

And finally, the one we like the most. A journal's first page is the hardest one, so the cover grants absolution in advance – ALL FIRST DRAFTS FORGIVEN, under a single honest inkblot. We pressed it into ink-bottle navy and deep wine.

It looks genuinely beautiful.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
