Village by the Sea – a Centerville, Massachusetts leather collection
From the Practice Log – an ongoing series of leather stamping studies.
An August study.
Centerville, Massachusetts keeps its world within one walk – a historic Main Street uphill, Craigville Beach below. We pressed that walk into leather, from luggage tags to journals, and named the collection Village by the Sea.
First, the mark that names it. Chequaquet is the village's older name, and locals still gloss it the same way – village by the sea. We set a gabled village store between the old name above and its meaning below, with the water at its feet.
It looks genuinely beautiful.

On the catchall tray it sits at full size in golden tan – the dish where pockets empty out at the end of a beach day.

On the journals it presses into deep bayberry green and dark cranberry wine – the village in its winter colors, for the people who stay.

Next, the walk everyone here has made with sandy feet. The store sits at the top and the water at the bottom, with the road climbing between them – JUST UPHILL FROM THE BEACH.

The luggage tags make the same climb, from pale sea-blue through beach sand up to deep cranberry wine. Looks great when stamped onto the leather.

Then, the order every candy counter knows by heart. We printed ONE OF EVERYTHING PLEASE on a paper penny candy bag, and pressed it into the corner of the toiletry kits – because that is exactly how everyone packs one. The kits stack caramel over chestnut, candy colors both.

And finally, our favorite. Two porch benches face each other under ALL PARTIES WELCOME – a village where even opposing benches hold one conversation. The keychains come as a pair, one warm red and one navy, so both sides of the porch get a set of keys.

We made this out of love. Leatherius Woodman is on a mission to create and share artifacts of beauty, craft and love – this study is one of them, and we hope the feeling is mutual. Every image is a render – how we prototype before cutting a die.
