About this leash
Our long dog leash is a long line for recall training and open spaces, cut from the same woven nylon webbing as our webbing collars, in 19 patterns, with a full-grain leather handle. Choose 10, 15, 20, 30 or 50 ft, or any length in between, and the ruler above shows it to scale.
At a glance
- Webbing: high-grade nylon, 1 in wide, with the pattern woven into the fabric on the loom, so the colors stay sharp through muddy fields and wet grass.
- Length: 10, 15, 20, 30 or 50 ft, or a custom length from 8 to 50 ft, cut to order. A custom length costs the same as the next length up.
- Handle: full-grain leather, riveted and stitched, with a matching leather tab at the clip.
- Hardware: an antique-finish trigger snap and riveted handle ring.
- Shipping: made to order in our workshop and shipped free within the US.
Which length?
10 ft is a good first long line for recall games in a yard. 15 ft is where most trainers start: enough room for your dog to wander off and come back, short enough to gather up quickly. 20 and 30 ft suit open fields, beaches and distance recall, and 50 ft gives a steady dog real freedom on big open ground.
Using a long line
Clip a long line to a harness, so a sudden stop at the end of the line does not jerk your dog's neck. Our personalized dog harnesses have a sturdy back ring for it. Hold the leather handle and gather the slack in loose loops in your other hand; to shorten up, let the webbing run through your hands. Wear gloves for the longest lines, and never wrap the webbing tightly around your fingers.
Match it
Each design matches one of our webbing collars with an engraved buckle. For everyday walks, the same patterns come as our woven webbing leash in 3 ft 4 in or 6 ft. All our dog leashes are in one place.
Questions we get
Which length for a small dog?
For dogs under about 20 lb we suggest 10 or 15 ft. A long 1 in line gets heavy to drag for a small dog.
Can you make it longer than 50 ft?
Yes. We cut every line to order, so write to us with the length you need and we will price it for you.
Is the pattern printed on?
Every pattern is woven into the nylon, which keeps it from fading or peeling.
How do I clean it?
Rinse off mud and sand, wash the webbing with mild soap and let it air dry. Keep the leather handle out of long soaks.
